Self-Respect Is Everything

12:12 PM

Self-respect is the most crucial aspect of one’s life. If you do not understand how to appreciate yourself and your worth, how do you expect others to? Life is too short to maintain toxic relationships. In order for yours to flourish, you need to work on yourself first.

1. Don’t expect anyone to love or respect you if you don’t fully love yourself first.

Some people accept unfavourable jobs and relationships because they do not respect themselves enough to realize they deserve better.

Relationships become detrimental when self-respect is lacking. You'll end up hurting the other person and yourself. You need to love yourself enough to choose the ones that make you happy and motivate you to grow.

This does not come easy so a conscious effort must be consistently made on a day-to-day basis. A lack of self-respect can, and most often does, result in depression and self-destructive behaviors.

If you don’t respect yourself then you won’t take care of yourself the way you should. By achieving this, you set boundaries for your life and your relationships. This will encourage people’s deference to you.

2. You and only you are responsible for your fate.

Life is no fun if you spend it hating yourself; this stifles any progress you hope to make. Once your confidence is up, you will stop making the terrible mistake of comparing yourself to others. You will already be comfortable and happy with who you are.

3. If you don't question what you believe in, you end up making the same mistakes over and over.

When we find ourselves in a romantic quagmire or struggling for an eternally denied promotion at work and our old ideas aren't working, we MUST ask ourselves two questions:
(A) Is this idea I'm acting on even true?
(e.g., Am I so irresistible that every men truly likes me?)
And (B) What would happen if everyone in the world believed this idea and behaved as I'm behaving now?

View every action you take as a universal law. Meaning, if you're considering lying to your boss to save your job, imagine a universal law that says everyone must lie to his or her boss.

4. Life is short. Don't waste it trying to make everything perfect. Learn to truly appreciate yourself and you'll learn to appreciate the little things in life.

5. Avoid happiness traps:

- I'll be happy when I get married or find that great relationship
- I'll be happy when I make more money
- I'll be happy when I have kids
- I'll be happy when I lose weight
- I'll be happy when I change jobs/get a new job/get promoted

6. Don't get stuck in your own faulty thinking. You need to reinforce your positive qualities and actively try to fix your negative qualities. How you feel about yourself affects every single aspect of your life.

Always keep in mind: Do not tolerate disrespect, not even from yourself. Having self-respect is the most beautiful quality a woman can possess.
